A British teacher, Gillian Gibbons, is sentenced to 15 days in jail for “teddy bear blasphemy”.  She had a contest for her students to name a teddy bear.  The name they picked? .  Muhammad.  She was convicted of insulting Islam.  I guess she’s lucky, she could have gotten 40 lashes, and protesters are calling for her execution.   Then there’s the story of a Saudi Arabian women who was with a male friend.  They were both abducted  and she was raped by 7 men.  She was sentenced to 90 lashes!  Why was she punished?  She was in the company of a man other than her husband or male relative, and she didn’t have permission to leave the house.

Um, aren’t we in the 21st century?  How can these things be happening?

‘Hasta la vista, baby’

UPDATE:  Well I’m still here, apparently this place doesn’t exist in this universe…  It’s a sad day indeed!  DAMN!!

I have decided that I’m going to a deserted island somewhere.  The temp. will be a warm 82 degrees.  There will be a cabana boy, or girl(if it’s a cabana girl she will have to be homely), bringing me strawberry margarita’s while I lay in a hammock.  There will be someone else (besides me), doing all the cooking and cleaning.  My husband will be there with me saying “as you wish dear” to all my senseless demands, and my children will be there too, building sand castles, and never fighting or arguing , telling me non stop that I’m not the stupidest person in the world, showering me with unsolicited hugs and kisses.   I can sleep as late as I like.  No cell phones, homework, lunches to be made, projects  to be finished.  No dogs that need to go out, no cat box to empty, and no bunny or birds to feed.  I will, however, have my computer so that I can keep up with all the blogs I’m addicted to reading.  AHH, HEAVEN ON EARTH!!!;-)

U2’s Joshua Tree

Just bought the new Joshua Tree Remix.  Joshua Tree is my favorite U2 album, I think.  The Remix has the original music, and a CD of new stuff.  It has the song “Waves of Sorrow”.  WOW! It is such a haunting song.  It was written 20 years ago for the release of Joshua Tree, but didn’t make it on.  I think Bono is a modern prophetic voice, a voice in the wilderness.  He was talking about injustice before it was the PC thing to do.    Go out and get the CD if ya can, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

happy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays, second only to Christmas. I can remember as a kid my grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins gathering together. My mom and grandma would be busy in the kitchen, the guys watching football, the kids playing. There was always alot of people and alot of noise, and I loved it. Since we’ve moved to Idaho, we are unable to be with family. Everyone is spread out and can’t come together. The last time I spend a holiday with anyone besides my parents was over 10 years ago. So, this is a hard time for me. I always get sad, and long to see family. It never really feels like the holidays. But, today has actually been really fun. My parents live next door, so we are spending the day at their house. We played Apples to Apples with the kids and my mom. This is a fun game. You have two decks of cards: Things and Descriptions. Each turn, one person is the referee & selects a Description and players try to pick, from the cards in their hands, the Things that best match that Description. The referee then chooses the Thing that appeals most and the player who played it gets the card. It is interesting to see how kids see things different from adults. Of course Rickard won. He was a very gracious winner, NOT! Here are the cards he won. I think they fit him very well. irresistible, Colorful, Intense, Charismatic(wait didn’t he say he was post-charismatic?) Sensitive and last but not least, Clueless! Interesting… We cooked a beautiful feast, gathered around the table & took turns saying what we are thankful for. Then we all ate until we thought we would burst. Now as we all sit groaning in pain, thinking about dessert (like any of us need it), I am very happy with how our day as been. I still long for my family, but I am really Thankful for the family I have around me. What are you Thankful for, I’d love to know.

Update on Isaiah

This was as of about 12:30 this morning.  Thank you to all who are joining us in prayer. Please pray that the transplant takes and that he can get back to being a 10 yr. old boy!

This is truly it!  At Children’s Hospital, the entire Hemotology & Oncology Nursing Unit talks this up like the child cancer patient’s new birthday (in a sense) b/c Isaiah, w/ all he’s been thru, is literally getting a new immune system tonight & into tomorrow AM!

One that will physiologically create a new bone marrow in Isaiah & begin to produce new blood cells, new ways to fight infection & fight the leukemic cells recently found in his bone marrow; a week & 1/2 into our evaluation here in Seattle.

I have 3 hearts

Mom, Oda( his make believe friend) keeps tying my hand behind my back ( as we are walking through the store with his hand behind him)

I’m only visiting this planet, mine was blown up

When his brother told him to put his shoes back on or he was gonna pass out: Then you’ll need mouth to mouth constipation

When asked to do something he doesn’t want to: You’re ruining my life

When he wants something to eat: I’m starving, I haven’t eaten in like 2 years

I’m not cold cause I have fur on the inside cause I’m an alien monkey

When he was having pins removed from his broken arm: Oh I’m so conscious, I’m feeling really conscious ( We think he meant nauseous)

I don’t hear bad words mom, all I hear is BEEP

“I don’t have to go to the bathroom”, “oh? really?” “It’s good to be an alien, you just need to learn the alien way mom”

“Is your backpack heavy?” “Mom, I have 4 arms, I can join them into one”

I don’t need to wear shoes, I have fur on the bottom of my feet

And from our 10 year old son: I said something about Pentecostals, “Pentecostals, aren’t they the cannibals that tried to eat Jack Sparrow?”

I hope these made you smile just a little

What’s up with global warming

I’ve been thinking about this for awhile now. I’ve heard  alot of different voices & still I’m not sure what the real story is. I’m sure that there is some truth to the global warming debate, but I have some issues, and I’m gonna vent them here. I find it ironic that the voices that are the loudest are rather hypocritical. Al Gore is the poster boy for this cause and yet he lives in a mansion that uses 20 times the amount of energy than a normal house & he flies in a private jet. NBC recently had green week. The Today show flew 3 of the stars to 3 different locations around the world, all in different private jets. NBC or GE the parent company made a point to say on the air that it had flown 3 people in 3 separate jets, but that they had bought carbon credits. One of the endless award shows had a red carpet made of recycled goods. So, what’s my beef? How much energy did it take to put on that show? If you want to make a difference, doesn’t it make more sense not to have it? I mean if you’re really serious!! I think it’s funny that the people who are screaming at me to change my light bulbs, or to drive a Hybrid, or whatever, choose NOT to change their ways, they just buy their way to peace of mind. Hum, that sounds a little familiar, isn’t that what the “church” was doing? I do believe that I have a responsibility to take care of this planet that God has put in our care. I will do my part, as much as I can & teach my kids to be informed.Should I use less energy, recycle, drive less, use Eco friendly goods? Absolutely. But, I won’t listen to people who have a “do as I say, not as I do” mentality. I have the utmost respect for people like Bono, who put their money where their mouth is. I tend to listen to people like this who are doing all they can to make a change. I will continue to research so that I can make up my own mind on this subject!!! I guess it’s not the debate I have a problem with. We all need to do our part to make sure our children and their kids have a safe planet. My issue is with the hypocrisy of the ones crying in the wilderness so to speak. Whew, I feel better…
