One of my biggest pet peeves is when people call me hon, sweetie, ect. I get especially annoyed when it is a man or someone who is younger than I.
I wrote about how I thought Walmart may be hell, and the pharmacy tech there has added fuel to that thought.
I don’t really know what it is about pharmacies, but it seems that a quality you must pocess when working in one, is to as snooty as hell heck, and pretend like you’re blind and can’t see that someone is standing at the counter glaring at you, and then when you finally do decide to look up, you have to act as though there is nothing as irritating as the fact that you actually have to do your job and help someone!!!
There is one tech who every time I come to the window and she is helping me, she greets me with “can I help you hon?” I could probably deal with it except for the fact that she is maybe 19 or 20 and I am old enough to be her mother! I find myself wanting to scream “yeah, you snot nosed brat who is young enough to be in diapers, you can help me, check your bad ass bottom attitude at the door, get my damn darn medicine and smile and wish me a nice day, how does that sound sweetie?” But, of course I don’t, I smile through gritted teeth and say thank you and walk out cursing under my breath.
Ho Hum!!
I feel your pain but couldn’t help have a chuckle over it. I am fairly certain that there is a screening process for pharmacies in which they look for that demeanor.
You know … you’re allowed to tell her that you do not like to be called “hon.” Think of it as training up a child in the way she should go …
The other possibility is that she likes you … that you are a kind person in a sea of ignorant bully people. Maybe you’re the one person who comes in and is kind to her … so she’s reacting to that.
OTOH … this is why I absolutely refuse to do any business with Voldemort …. I mean, … WalMart.

Sonja- 1st, I could never say that to her because I go there every week to p/u meds for my parents;-) I’m out spoken, but that would be hard.
2nd, it’s not just Walmart. I find this attitude with most, if not all parmacies.
3rd, I don’t think she likes me very much…LOL
The only thing worse than “hon” is “ma’am”. Ugh!
Kirtyhoo-at least when they call me maam they aknowledge that I’m an adult;-)
Hey hon, would you get me a beer from the fridge…
PLEASE
🙂
hahaha honey
